2006 U13 Division State Cup Champions!
 |
|
CONGRATULATIONS to the U13 Boys Heartland Scorpions who on May 14th were crowned the 2006 U13
boys Iowa State Cup champions! The team has continued to build on their impressive State, Regional and
National ranking in the 2005/06 season by winning the Iowa State Cup championship.
The Scorpions dominated the State cup with an impressive record of 5 straight wins. The game results
involved:
HSC Scorpions Vrs Cedar Valley 5-0 Victory
HSC Scorpions Vrs Ames 9-0 Victory
HSC Scorpions Vrs CRSA 1-0 Victory
HSC Scorpions Vrs Urbandale 7-1 Victory (Semi-final)
HSC Scorpions Vrs CRSA PK shoot out Victory (Final)
The Scorpions dominated the final against CRSA, who to their credit defended well for the majority of
the game. However, the Scorpions relentless attacking firepower and attractive attacking soccer was
just too much for CRSA. According to Coach Gareth "it was only a matter of time before we scored as we
had numerous opportunities on goal and we were basically camped in the attacking half for the majority
of the game. The boys thoroughly deserved their victory and illustrated they can handle not only the
physical demands, but also the mental pressure of winning a big tournament. I am very proud of the
character and desire the team has shown. This championship is a result of a lot of hard work on the
training field over the last 7 months by the players, team and the coaching staff".
